Recipe for quick and easy pizza wraps (2024)

ByEmma

I’m always looking for something more interesting than just sandwiches for lunch. Sandwiches are easy and obviously you can toast some, but sometimes you want something a bit different for lunch.

Someone at work mentioned they make tortilla pizza wraps and I decided to try them out and share them with you.

N loves anything in a wrap and other children I know are just the same. For some reason he finds them really exciting. I can work with that and hopefully provide some alternative ideas to pep up lunchtime. The picky do it yourself nature also appeals to children, and if you’ve got fussy kids, then these could be a good option for trying to get them to try news foods.

What you need for tortilla pizza wraps

  • Tortilla wraps
  • For traditional margerita style, tomato sauce (I use tomato and basil chilled pasta sauce because I always have it in the fridge, or marinara for those in the US, you could use tomato and mascarpone or roasted veg and tomato instead)
  • Grated cheese or mozzarella
  • Add any other toppings you fancy. Try salami, spinach, tomatoes, sweetcorn, chopped pepper, tuna or ham and pineapple

Tips to make them

Have a conveyor system going if you’re making more than one wrap. Lay them all out with little bowls of toppings.

Try different sauces, you could try a garlic sauce, or even pesto and top with chicken and mozzarella.

Don’t overfill your tortilla otherwise you won’t be able to wrap it up. You can fold in the ends to make like a burrito, or just fold round like a tube with open ends.

If you don’t have a microwave, you could heat up a frying pan with wipe of oil, and gently heat through the wrap in the pan. Turnover halfway. Or wrap the pizza wrap in foil and put in a preheated oven directly on oven shelves to heat through. Or (I’m giving lots of options), sandwich in a panini maker or on a George Foreman grill.

Be careful with any vegetable fillings as they will often be hot.

I also included a broken egg on top of mine before folding the wrap up, but this will take longer to cook as the white of the egg does take some time. If you leave the egg just peeking out the side of the wrap you can see more easily when it is done.

These really are simple to make and if you set out a pizza topping table for children they can really go to town on their toppings and make their own. Just remember that you may have to prep some toppings before putting in the wrap, so buy ready to use items like cooked chicken.

One standard size wrap should be enough for most people depending on the amount of topping you put inside. You may want to allow two for hungry adults. Pizza wraps are also a great way to use up leftovers.

Quick and easy pizza wraps

Pizza in a wrap for a lunch alternative to sandwiches. Add whatever topping you want

Prep Time 10 minutes

Total Time 12 minutes

Ingredients

  • Tortilla wraps
  • Tomato sauce (I use tomato and basil chilled pasta sauce because I always have it in the fridge)
  • Grated cheese or mozzarella pieces
  • Add any other toppings you fancy. Try salami, spinach, tomatoes, sweetcorn, chopped pepper, tuna or ham and pineapple

Instructions

  1. Lay out the number of wraps you need and spread on a layer of tomato sauce.

  2. Sprinkle over your toppings. Remember you will be folding up your wrap so don’t fill over the whole of your wrap.

  3. Fold in each side of the wrap to make a tube and flatten slightly to hold it in place. You don’t need to fold the ends in unless you really want to.

  4. Put on a microwavable plate and microwave until cheese has melted which is usually around 30 seconds for one.

  5. Remove and eat. Be careful with any vegetable fillings as they will often be hot. Repeat as many times as needed.

Recipe Notes

Add whatever toppings you fancy, or try different types of wraps. For children or brunch, have pots of all the toppings and let people make their own. If you don’t have a microwave, you could put the wraps on a baking tray in a pre-heated oven or under a grill to heat through
