Major Change (CODO) Requirements

Purdue students interested in changing their major should meet with their current academic advisor to discuss their options and begin the online process. Once the student’s Major Change (CODO) has been processed, students will receive an email with instructions to authorize the change.

Students will need to meet the criteria below to be eligible for this major. A student’s catalog term, typically the semester you started at Purdue, will be used to determine the Major Change criteria that applies to you. Students can find their catalog term at the top of their MyPurduePlan below the degree progress bar.

Students changing their major to a space restricted program, as designated by SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS ONLY, need to have their Curricular Change Request (CCR) submitted by their home college/school by 5pm the Thursday of Finals week for requests effective the following term to be considered.

General Requirements

  • Minimum Semesters: 2
  • Minimum Purdue Main Campus Credit Hours (West Lafayette/Indianapolis): 30
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA: 3.0

Course Requirements

B or better in the following:

  • MA 16100 - Plane Analytic Geometry And Calculus I Credits: 5.00 or
  • MA 16500 - Analytic Geometry And Calculus I Credits: 4.00
  • OR

  • MA 16200 - Plane Analytic Geometry And Calculus II Credits: 5.00 or
  • MA 16600 - Analytic Geometry And Calculus II Credits: 4.00
  • OR

  • MA 26100 - Multivariate Calculus Credits: 4.00
  • OR

  • MA 26500 - Linear Algebra Credits: 3.00
  • OR

  • MA 26600 - Ordinary Differential Equations Credits: 3.00
  • AND

  • CHM 11500 - General Chemistry Credits: 4.00
  • OR

  • PHYS 17200 - Modern Mechanics Credits: 4.00
  • OR

  • PHYS 24100 - Electricity And Optics Credits: 3.00
  • AND

  • MGMT 20000 - Introductory Accounting Credits: 3.00 or
  • MGMT 21200 - Business Accounting Credits: 3.00
  • One of the following course combinations:

  • Oral Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically SCLA 10100 Transformative Texts, Critical Thinking And Communication I: Antiquity To Modernity) and Written Communication Foundational Outcome course (typically SCLA 10200 Transformative Texts, Critical Thinking And Communication II: Modern World)

    OR

    SCLA 11000 American Language And Culture For International Students Iand one of the following: SCLA 11100 Language And Cultural Exchange II: Texts And Contexts, an Oral Communication Foundational Outcome course, or a Written Communication Foundational Outcome course

Other Requirements

  • Students are accepted for effective terms FALL andSPRING.
  • Students are admitted on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS ONLY after a holistic review. Space is extremely limited.
  • Students must be in good academic standing (not on academic notice).
  • New Beginner Students who started at Purdue West Lafayette/Indianapolis in Fall 2024 and later will only be considered. If you have a catalog term prior to Fall 2024 and would still like to be considered, please contact an Integrated Business and Engineering academic advisor or and Industrial Engineeringacademic advisor.
  • At least one of each Math, Chemistry/Physics, and Management courses considered for the CODO must be taken for a letter grade on a Purdue campus.
  • Students are allowed two (2) attempts to CODO. Appeals for a third attempt can be made; approval is not guaranteed.
  • Student surveys must be completed online by 5:00 p.m. Eastern the Thursday of finals week in the term prior to changing majors. Major Change (CODO) requests will be reviewed after semester grades have posted and Transition to Major Admissions completed from First-Year Engineering to IE.
  • Note: The plan of study for IBE and IE major does anticipate students may need to take summer classes or take an extra semester. Students are expected to speak with an IBE or IE advisor prior to CODO.

Students interestedin changing their major to Integrated Business and Engineering (IBE) and Industrial Engineering (IE) Double-Degree are expected to schedule a meeting with a School of Business or Industrial Engineering advisor as part of the CODO process.
