Five Easy Summer Recipes - Thistlewood Farm (2024)

I spent the last week in Washington DC on the annual school field trip.

You know the one.

The trip where you wear a super stylish coordinating group t-shirt and walk 1000.76 miles and get sunburned and see where our founding fathers lived and the original copy of the Declaration of Independence.

And the first ladies dresses.

And George Washington’s teeth.

All the super important things that helped to found our great nation.

The trip was everything the tour guide promised and so much more.

But at the end of a week full of karoke at 6:00am and bargaining for t-shirts in front of Ford Theater and standing in endless lines and having the wig maker at colonial Williamsburg tell me I need a new hairstyle and sleeping on a bus….

….I’ve come to one conclusion.

I am so up for mom of the year.

I’m just sayin’.

And I’ll accept my reward with one…

….of thesefive easy summer recipes.

Feel free to stand up with me….

….and accept your award too. 🙂

I would like to give you an award right now . . . . karaoke at six a m. That alone would put you at the top! I hope you had some sensible shoes with you and not some cute sandals with little sparkles on them :-) The strawberry recipes look so yummy -- I love the one with the blueberries -- very Fourth of July.

Ha! My kids are young enough that, so far, my field trips have been 1-day affairs. Thankfully this past week, I was on my daughter's field trip to a dairy farm (which went textbook-perfect) as opposed to my son's field trip to Chicago (a VERY LONG day trip). His trip got even longer when his charter bus broke down 1 hour away from Chi-town. The second bus had to drop its load of kids off, circle around, and get my son's group. However ... on the return trip, it was a good thing my son wasn't on the other bus as there were a few upset tummies ... sometimes I think these field trips aren't all they have cracked up to be!The recipes look yummy. I have made a similar version of the strawberry cheesecake bites (adapted from Martha Stewart and made simpler by myself). I lop the bottoms off the strawberries so they sit upright ... stuff them with easy-mix (not homemade) storebought cheesecake--and top the cheesecake with sliced toasted almonds. People are always impressed but it's soooooooooooo easy. And tasty. :)

You are just too funny! Yes, unfortunately, I DO know that field trip--standing in line two hours to see the pillow Abraham Lincoln died on, setting off the security system at the National Archives with a roll of film in my pocket (it's been a few years), convincing 8th graders that the man selling genuine Oakley sunglasses on the corner for $20 is not your friend... You seriously do deserve a Congressional medal as Mom of the year, KariAnne! Those desserts look delicious! I may have to make one, or two, or three to score brownie....I mean strawberry points around here. Thanks for sharing!

They look amazingly scrumptious. Yum-yum-yum-yum and YUM! Want to hear something funny? When I saw the first "click here"... I thought it said "lick here"... and I wondered.... "Now, how in this world does Karianne do it? I know she's amazing....and definitely in the running for Mom of The Year....but now she's created taste-o-screen... What will she achieve next?! Thanks for the watering mouth.... =)

Lovin' the recipes! My strawberries are coming on well now. I do believe that trip sent you over the top to recieve the BMOTY Award...Let me be the first to say Welcome to the BMOTY group! Now on to the Wig Maker's comments, they needing new materials for a new wig! I finally got tired of my daughter telling me that I was TOO OLD to wear my hair long and donated mine to Locks of Love...can you guess how I won my BMOTY???

Lol, So glad you have fun on your trip. Your post made me laugh, you have such a funny way of describing things. Poor George apparently had terrible problems with his teeth his whole life. Amazing that he wasn't more cranky about it. Have a great weekend, xo, N.G.

These all look delicious! I am salivating! And how dare that wig maker tell you that you need a new hairstyle! How rude (Stephanie Tanner, you know what I'm talking about). Sounds like you made some good memories though!
