YOGURT MINT SAUCE FROM SCRATCH

This is the most classic version of the Indian Yogurt mint Sauce – it includes Yogurt, mint, coriander, spice from green chili, zing from lemon juice, and cumin powder. This yogurt mint dip and the tamarind sauce are best alongside your appetizers, Naan bread, and even your pilau rice or biryani!

Supermarkets like Tesco do sell this dip in the name of Raita Sauce and Raita Dip. But honestly, it is easier to whip a Quick Mint Sauce at home, rather than going to the supermarket. And homemade ones taste 100 times better any day!

It is so quick and easy to make and you only need 5 minutes at hand. Serve it instantly or chill them covered in the refrigerator if you are serving later on.

This sauce can be prepped ahead, so it really works for festive occasions too!

YOGURT MINT SAUCE RECIPE VARIATIONS

This restaurant-style yogurt sauce is really versatile that you can adjust the ingredients and flavours to suit your liking. With simply 5 minutes in hand, you can whip up the most delicious mint yogurt dip.

Like extra heat in your mint sauce, you can add another green chilli or jalapenos. If you don’t have either, spice it with dried chilli flakes and ground black pepper – but the flavors will be different.

If you have a store-bought Mint Sauce jar at home, then you can make this dip super quick. Simply stir 2 tablespoons of the mint sauce into 1 cup of full-fat yogurt, stir vigorously and adjust the salt & sugar accordingly.

For Garlicky flavour, add 1 clove of garlic to the blender along with the other ingredients for making the green paste.

For really thick yogurt mint sauce, use Greek Yogurt or Hung Curd instead of Full fat yogurt.

INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED

You will need a handful of ingredients that are easily available in the kitchen pantry, a blender, and just 5 minutes!

HERBS – The Fresh and Cool Sauce has fresh mint and fresh coriander leaves. Do not substitute for dried mint.

GREEN CHILLI OR JALAPENOS – Green Chilli works best in the recipe. However, if it is not available, use Jalapeños

LEMON JUICE – Fresh Lemon Juice adds the zing to the Chutney and they are a must. You can substitute for Lime Juice too.

GROUND CUMIN POWDER – You can use store-bought or make them at home with my recipe for Ground Cumin. Just need 2 minutes.

GARLIC – is a personal preference. You can include or leave it out as per your liking.

SALT to TASTE – Adjust the seasoning to your liking.

QUICK VIDEO ON HOW TO MAKE RESTAURANT STYLE YOGURT SAUCE

TIPS TO MAKE THE BEST INDIAN MINT SAUCE

Do not add the Yogurt to the blender along with the remaining ingredients. Your Dip will turn out really thin and watery.

First blend the fresh herbs along with green chilli, salt, sugar, and garlic ( if using any ) and add it to yogurt.

Use Full fat yogurt instead of Low fat yogurt. Full fat yoghurt adds the tartness to the condiment.

If you do not have a blender at hand, use store bought mint sauce. Swirl the sauce into the yogurt along with 1/2 garam masala powder , 1/4 tsp chilli powder, lemon juice, salt & sugar. Whisk together and serve.

How to make Yogurt Sauce with Homemade Coriander mint chutney?

Although this recipe only takes only 5 minutes, you can make it in 2 minutes too.

If you have some homemade coriander mint chutney at hand, make this sauce instantly. Swirl 2 – 3 tablespoon of the chutney into the yogurt, adjust the seasoning, and squeeze in a little lemon juice. Tadaa…. your Instant Indian Yogurt Sauce ready in just 2 minutes.

How to make Yoghurt mint sauce with Store bought mint sauce?

Making this Raita Dip will only take you 2 minutes. To 1 cup of yogurt, add 2-3 tsp of store-bought mint sauce, 1/4 tsp cumin powder, 1/4 tsp garam masala, salt to taste, 1/4 tsp caster sugar, lemon or lime juice, and 1/4 tsp chilli powder.

Since the store-bought mint sauce lacks heat, you’ll need to add chilli powder for spiciness. Avoid substituting it with paprika powder as it will alter the sauce’s color. Taste and adjust the seasoning according to your preference.

Cover the bowl and chill the sauce until you’re ready to serve.

They are delicious along with Flatbreads, on top of your vegetable or lamb burgers, and even as a spread in your sandwich.
