I am currently working with a student who is from Bulgaria but now living in the United States. I am working on his English language, reading fluency, comprehension and spelling. I am utilizing phonics, fun activities, tandem writing and reading as well as games to emphasize the English language. We are having a blast and making great progress. I am a patient person who offers a ton of praise. I divide each session into thirds (we can discuss this further) and that seems to work amazingly. Working remotely is a fantastic way to get the job done. The structure that I offer and the speaking opportunities that I provide are quite beneficial. I tell my ESL students that they need to even think in English. I enjoy writing simple emails to my students daily so that we can converse on a regular basis, (Sometimes we converse in writing and other times we record videos). I am even hoping to utilize peer teaching with students from various non-english speaking locations...that is on my bucket list!

I am a retired teacher with 23 years of teaching experience. I have enjoyed teaching both upper elementary and middle school. I have also taught at the college level. Most recently I have decided to tutor both virtually and face2face. Teaching reading has been one of the highlights of my tutoring experiences. I currently tutor an ESL student in reading and spelling and found that the techniques I utilize for this student is also an excellent program for all readers hoping to increase their reading fluency and comprehension. I make reading fun, interactive and easy to follow. Most of my experience with reading is at the upper elementary level but I would have no problem creating a program for the primary grades. I also taught reading in the middle school as a part of my language arts program. I strongly believe we must set small goals as well as long-term goals and build confidence.
